Supporting Sustainable Schools

“By 2020, the government would like all schools to be models of sustainable procurement, using goods and services of high environmental and ethical standards from local sources where practicable, and increasing value for money by reusing, repairing and recycling as many goods as possible” DCSF

We provide a unique range of services that help schools to relocate, reuse & recycle unwanted resources, using the waste hierarchy to minimise the impact on landfill, and instead maximise the social and environmental benefits of re-using and recycling resources.

Capital investment through BSF, Academies and the Primary Capital Programme inevitably require the disposal of furniture and equipment. Typically this could be 50-80 tonnes per secondary and 10-15 tonnes per primary school. WE are able to ensure that 50% of this can be reused and 45% recycled.

Our legacy audits provide an asset list inventory, by condition, by weight and by replacement cost, thus ensuring that reusable, re-furbishable and recyclable furniture items are identified.

WE then help YOU to find ethical disposal options that suit YOU and YOUR budget, whether WE enable the Re-use, within the local authority, or, recycle and re-distribution in the UK, or, sent to support (schools in) developing countries.

This is an EVENT to transform education not simply the buildings. There are many opportunities to engage students in this approach, linking the activities and outcomes to the curriculum. Our learning resources links help to identify those opportunities and, with our case studies, provide useful context to the environmental issues and to the benefits of re-distributing resources in the UK and overseas.
